Introduced in 1917, it utilized three narrow wings to provide a high lift coefficient and exceptional climb rates, making it a formidable opponent in a turning fight. Role The Dr.1 served as a specialized dogfighter within the German Luftstreitkräfte. Its primary role was to engage enemy scouts and fighters. While it was not the fastest aircraft in the sky, its legendary maneuverability allowed skilled pilots to out-turn almost any Allied aircraft of the era. Significance The Fokker Dr.1 gained immortality as the preferred aircraft of Manfred von Richthofen, the "Red Baron," who scored many of his final victories in the triplane. Though only 320 were ever produced, its distinctive shape and association with the highest-scoring ace of World War I have made it the most recognizable aircraft of the entire conflict. SAFETY NOTE: Choking hazard, small pieces, recommended for children at least 6 years or older. Adult supervision is recommended during playtime.
