The Hero’s Journey: Immersive Learning Experience (with Meta Quest 3S VR Headset) Grades: 8–12 Subject Areas: English Language Arts, Literature, Storytelling This Immersive Learning Experience places students inside the classic narrative structure known as the Hero’s Journey, identified by scholar Joseph Campbell. Through six virtual reality experiences, students explore the key stages of a hero’s transformation—from ordinary life and the call to adventure to trials, challenges, and the hero’s return. As students move through interactive environments, they encounter characters, choices, and reflective prompts that illustrate how conflict, decision-making, and growth shape powerful stories. In some stages, students interact with AI-driven characters to determine who may be allies or enemies, encouraging critical thinking and observation. A companion mini-textbook supports the experience by helping students connect each stage of the journey to well-known works such as The Odyssey, The Hobbit, Harry Potter, and The Hunger Games.
