Our Land Navigation Workshop puts you on the right path—literally. INSTRUCTOR: RETIRED GREEN BERET MIKE ADKINS The course is an introduction to land navigation using a map and compass. What will we learn? · Introduction to map reading and the topographical map · Understanding and utilizing marginal data · What is magnetic declination and how to utilize it · Use of a mapping protractor · Plotting coordinates with MGRS/NGS · Basic introduction to the military lensatic compass (this will not be the compass we are using in the course) · How to use an orienteering compass · Understanding pace count/distance measurement · Route planning · Practical application in the field · Where to find additional resources What you won’t learn: · How to use a G.P.S.
