Sterling Silver Four Piece Tea Set by Goldsmiths and Silversmiths Co.
This rather beautiful tea set was crafted from sterling silver by the Goldsmiths and Silversmiths Company. The four pieces are all hallmarked for manufacture in 1952, the year Queen Elizabeth II ascended the throne, and are marked with a special hallmark commemorating this. The four pieces comprise a teapot, hot water pot, sugar bowl and creamer, forged from sterling silver and decorated with acanthus leaves and ornate spouts. The teapot and the hot water pot each feature timber separators on the handles to prevent them getting too hot when filled. The tea set whilst not a true antique does have a very 19th century appearance to it, and if it wasn't hallmarked for Birmingham manufacture in 1952 one could be forgiven for thinking it was crafted much earlier than it was. Each piece to the underside is stamped 'GOLDSMITHS AND SILVERSMITHS COMPANY LD 112 REGENT STREET W'. The Goldsmiths and Silversmiths were a very reputable company and actually merged with Garrard, the then crown jeweller, in 1952, indicating this was manufactured right at the end of the company's existence. This beautiful set has just been cleaned and polished by our silversmith and is in lovely condition, ready for its new custodian.
