Girard-Perregaux Tropical Dial Girard-Perregaux is one of the oldest and most traditional manufacturers in Switzerland, founded in 1791 in La Chaux-de-Fonds. This example from the early 1950s brings the calm charm of post-war dress watches to the wrist: a round 34 mm stainless steel case with characteristically curved "fancy lugs," a champagne dial with applied Roman numerals at 12, 3, 6, and 9 o'clock, and fine golden Dauphine hands. Inside ticks a hand-wound movement with 17 jewels, signed "Girard-Perregaux, Fab. Suisse, Adjusted," with Incabloc shock protection and antimagnetic properties, which was a significant technical feature at the time of manufacture. The built-in GP emblem with the year 1791 on the inner case back confirms the authenticity of this honest witness of time. Over the decades, the dial has developed a beautiful tropical patina that gives the watch its distinctive character: a warm, coppery hue with uneven shading, fine signs of aging, and natural speckling. Such tropical dials are highly valued among collectors because each piece is unique. The case shows fine signs of wear and slight corrosion on the edge. The black leather strap is not the original.
