Edox is a Swiss watch brand founded in 1884 by Christian Ruefli-Flury in Biel, Switzerland, whose name means “measuring of time” in ancient Greek. The company gained recognition in 1961 with the Delfin, a pioneering sports watch featuring innovative double O-ring gaskets, reinforced casebacks, and shock resistance, establishing Edox as a specialist in water-resistant timepieces. In 1965 the Hydrosub line extended these innovations, and by the 1970s Edox had become known as the “Water Champion of the Watch Industry.” Despite challenges during the quartz crisis, Edox adapted and survived, maintaining independence longer than many Swiss peers. In recent decades, the brand has built a strong reputation in motorsport and sailing sponsorships, producing robust chronographs and professional divers rated up to 1000 meters. While less mainstream than larger maisons, Edox continues to embody a blend of Swiss precision, adventurous design, and technical resilience, making it a respected niche player in contemporary horology.
