Spend the day with Astor Apiaries for a hands-on urban beekeeping experience led by Nick Hoefly, Certified Master Beekeeper and co-founder of Astor Apiaries. This experience is designed for curious adults, food lovers, nature lovers, and anyone who wants to see what it’s like to work inside a real honey bee colony. The experience begins with a beekeeping class and safety briefing. You’ll learn what to expect around the hives, how to move safely near honey bees, and what we’ll be looking for during the inspection. After the briefing, guests will suit up in protective beekeeping gear and head into the apiary for a guided Hive Dive. You’ll get an up-close look inside a working beehive as we look for brood, pollen, nectar, honey, the queen, and other signs of colony health. Guests will have the opportunity to hold frames full of bees and honey while thousand of bees fly around. After the Hive Dive, we’ll take a break for the provided lunch. The experience continues with a honey class covering how honey is made, why honey varies by floral source and season, and what makes raw honey unique. We’ll finish with a guided honey tasting and food pairing. This event is capped at 10 participants to ensure everyone gets plenty of personalized time with the bees. Each attendee will leave with a honey flight, workbook, and group photo. A photographer will be on hand to document your experience. Additional shots including your beekeeper hero portrait, action shots, and candid moments may be purchased as an add-on package for $50 as digital files. Please choose the ticket option with the photo package for this. Important Accessibility and Safety Information This event is not handicap accessible. Guests should be comfortable walking on uneven ground, standing, wearing protective gear, and spending time outdoors near active beehives. This experience is not recommended for anyone with a sensitivity or allergy to bee venom. Guests will be around live honey bees, and while protective gear and safety procedures are provided, bee stings are always a possibility. A signed waiver is required for participation. Guests who do not complete the waiver will not be permitted to participate in the hive portion of the experience. Cancellation, Refund, and Weather Policy Tickets are non-refundable after a 48-hour grace period from the time of purchase. For tickets purchased within 7 days of the event, the 48-hour grace period does not apply, and all sales are final at the time of purchase. We are unable to offer refunds for guest cancellations, missed attendance, late arrival, scheduling conflicts, illness, travel issues, or any other reason. This experience is weather-dependent. If Astor Apiaries determines that weather conditions make the hive portion unsafe or unsuitable, we will reschedule the experience and provide a rain date intended to accommodate as many attendees as possible. No refunds will be issued due to weather-related rescheduling. Photo Credit: Michael Kaminski
