Justin has been friends with Juan Carlos Arango - of Arango Specialty Coffees - for some 10 years plus and has bought some delicious coffees from him all along those years (Some Enjoy favorites such as Andres Muñoz Pink Bourbon and Alberto Montoya Chiroso were coffees that made their way to us by Juan Carlos). Juan recently visited our roastery as he does every time he's in Providence and we were riffing on our program and he had a pitch for us that really blew us away. We are always trying to find ways to buy more green from Juan and support his producers and he tossed the idea of purchasing a full harvest of a producers crop that would be a good fit for Enjoy's volume and fit a cup profile that we loved. I lit up with excitement at the prospect of being the sole roaster for a producer and to start the type of relationship that I've always dreamed of. We carry a ton of responsibility in this decision and are so very excited to continue to develop, and introduce this new exciting relationship with Oliva Madrid. Here we go! As told by Juan Carlos: Oliva has dedicated more than nine years to cultivating exceptional coffee. At her farm, La Marcela, she tends to 8,000 coffee trees of the Castillo and Colombia varietals. For Oliva, there is nothing more rewarding than spending her days outdoors, walking the fields and nurturing each tree with intention and care. Her commitment extends well beyond cultivation. Oliva pays close attention to every step of the processing, a dedication that clearly shines through in the cup. The result is a beautifully balanced coffee with layered complexity and an engaging character that makes it truly memorable. An entrepreneur at heart, Oliva has also spent the past few years roasting and selling her own coffee under her own brand—an accomplishment she is deeply proud of. With more time, or the right support to help grow distribution, she hopes to expand that side of her business even further. Above all, Oliva loves the lifestyle that coffee farming provides. She envisions herself remaining on the farm for years to come, continuing this work with passion and pride for as long as her health allows. Oliva's coffee hit the nail on the head for us. A super sweet, balanced, yet nuanced profile full of complexity where you want it with florals and citrus with a round mouthfeel. Oliva's coffee is the type of coffee that you want another cup of immediately. It's one of those more rare profiles that is mass appealing but scratches the itch for the coffee head as well. In the cup we get intense pink lemonade vibes up front that is rooted with a sweet honey note from hot to cold. As the cup cools, florals emerge a la rose alongside candied citrus and caramels.
