Jolly Bean - Lala Salama - Uganda (DECAF)

There’s a lot to like about this coffee. Firstly it’s a decaf, and it’s good, secondly it comes by way of the Coffee Gardens & Yard and Norman Mukuru in Western Uganda. Norman is a coffee guru with decades of experience. In the flatlands approaching the foothills of Mt. Elgon he has established The Coffee Yard, a huge centre for coffee drying with a formidable reputation for high quality coffee with a diverse range of cup profiles curated for individual clients' specific preferences. The Coffee Yard is a new commercial partner to The Coffee Gardens who are supporting Norman Mukuru and his team to bring his coffees to the UK and EU. This relationship is now in its second year. At Jolly Bean, we have been buying from the Coffee Gardens/Yard for a number of years and they have a special place in our minds for the fantastic coffee they produce, and also the impact they have on the ground at origin supporting local communities. We’ve previously worked with the Coffee Gardens on charitable projects, and have previously donated £460 to the Cure Childrens Hospital in Uganda, an organisation close to the Coffee Gardens. This decaf lot itself has under gone Swiss water decaffeination. This gentle, natural, and organically certified process preserves the coffee’s flavour and aroma, as CO₂ selectively removes caffeine while leaving other compounds intact.
