Kaptola Co-Operative
Bung'oma Washed | Batian · Ruiru | Kaptola Co-operative A western Kenya single origin from Bung'oma, and if that surprises you, that's exactly the point. Kenya's coffee story is usually told through its central highlands: Nyeri, Kirinyaga, Murang'a. Bungoma doesn't feature in that story. It sits in the west of the country, in the foothills of Mount Elgon near the Uganda border, far from the famous estates and auction lots that built Kenya's reputation. It isn't a traditional specialty coffee growing area. Which is what makes it interesting. Grown by smallholder members of the Kaptola Co-operative, this coffee comes from farmers who have been quietly tending their crops outside the spotlight, and the cup reflects that quiet confidence. At lower altitude, this coffee trades bright acidity for something warmer and more grounded: a smooth, full body, rich nutty depth, and a gentle, clean sweetness that makes it one of the most drinkable cups in our range. Batian and Ruiru, two varieties bred for resilience and quality across Kenya's growing regions, bring structure and consistency, while the washed process keeps the cup clear and the flavours honest. Not a coffee that shouts. One that you keep coming back to. Wonderful as a pour over. Excellent with milk and sugar. Origin: Bungoma, Kenya · Process: Washed · Varieties: Batian, Ruiru · Grown by Kaptola Co-operative
