Dream Pen Zogan Swan - Urushi Teal
Limited Edition: This model is a limited edition fountain pen with only 10 pieces that will ever be crafted. The Swan Swans are known to form a tsugai (番い), a lifelong pair that moves through life together in perfect harmony. This natural devotion has long been seen as a symbol of enduring love. The swan inlaid in mother-of-pearl is inspired by the swans that live on the Shidaka lake; graceful, gentle, and inseparable. The smooth teal-toned Urushi finish was inspired by the body of the lake’s where the swan glides on. As your hand holding the body, its serene beauty evokes the sight of swans moving soundlessly over Shidaka Lake. Zogan Swan Urushi fountain pen took inspiration from the scene of the Swans in Shidaka Lake in Oita Prefecture, where a quiet mirror of water where sky, mountains, and swans meet. Watching the swans as they dance through the still water makes it feel as if time has slowed. Zogan Inlay This pen is handcrafted by the Urushi Artisans in Japan, before finally finished with the mother-of-pearl inlay by the Zogan experts. Each fountain pen is a labor of love and patience, as working with delicate mother-of-pearl and Urushi requires a great deal of skill. Zogan is an Inlay Crafting technique that has existed in Japan for over a thousand years, and while it is not limited to mother-of-pearl (Raden), many Zogan artisans prefer to use this radiant material as a testament to their skill. The art of applying one material onto the surface of an object has its own challenges, but what sets Zogan apart is that the design - in this case, the swan - must be carved onto the surface first before inlaying the bright white mother-of-pearl shells. When combined with Urushi (Japanese lacquer), the radiance of the Zogan artwork achieves an ethereal glow that is almost impossible to match. Product Care Since the inlay material, mother-of-pearl is delicate, please avoid dropping the pen or applying pressure to the product. Use a gentle cloth and wipe the surface delicately if needed. For the Urushi color, we highly recommend avoiding long direct sun exposure to the pen as it will over time alter the color.
