This is a vintage Theyyam Breast and Torso plate in bronze from North Kerala—a rare and exquisite artifact. Exclusively worn during the annual Theyyam festival, a 2,000-year-old tradition where performers, known as kolams, are believed to become the deity themselves, it transforms the dancer into Bhadrakali, a revered form of the goddess in Kerala. From the courtyard of Teyyam in northern Kerala to the India Art Fair — this bronze breastplate carries centuries on its surface. Once worn by male performers embodying goddesses, the sthree-vadivu kavacham was hammered into divine curves by hereditary moosari artisans. In ritual, it was not ornament but incarnation: metal became skin, body became temple. This breastplate is a spellbinding masterpiece, capturing the raw beauty of its craftsmanship. This piece embodies rich cultural heritage and artistic finesse, transporting its owner to the realm of ancient rituals and divine grace. Although usually made of bronze - this one might have a mix of other metals, including copper. Materials: Brass, Bronze, Copper Width: 10.5 inches Height: 14.5 inches Depth: 2.25 inches
