Elephant House

Just past midnight, a winged elephant drifts above the rooftops of Edinburgh. Small hooded figures have come out to guide it through, holding it steady by a thin red string. They seem to know what they're doing. They've probably done this before. The Elephant House itself is real, a tea room on George IV Bridge. What happens above it after dark is Matylda Konecka's invention. Cats watch from the cornices. A pale figure stands in an upstairs window. By morning the elephant will be gone, the street reset, and no one inside will admit anything unusual happened the night before. The art in this gorgeous 1,000-piece puzzle was hand-painted by Konecka.
