St. Louis Oasis Northwest Plaza Falls Prevention Fair
On Tuesday, September 24, Oasis will host the Falls Prevention Fair from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Refreshments will be provided. The Falls Prevention Fair will host more than 20 community partners offering fall risk-related screenings, education, and resources to empower older adults to mitigate their modifiable risk factors and prevent falls. Community partners include healthcare providers such as BJC and Mercy, nonprofit organizations such as Aging Ahead and the Arthritis Foundation, and academic institutions such as SLU School of Nursing and students from the College of Pharmacy. Screenings include blood pressure, strength, agility, flexibility, neuropathy, vision, bone density, and A1c. Services and advice will include medication reviews, home modification assessments, Medicare counseling (to make follow-up appointments), a ‘Safer Rugs’ demonstration, first aid and emergency preparedness kits, and safer footwear. Several exercise class demonstrations will also include the popular Tai Chi for Arthritis for Fall Prevention. After strolling the booths at the fair, take the elevator up to the fourth floor to tour the classrooms and have some complimentary refreshments.
