Motherboard Capacitor Kit
These are revision-specific full motherboard capacitor replacement kits for original Xbox consoles. Each kit includes the electrolytic motherboard capacitors for the selected revision, including the CPU/power rail capacitors. These kits are intended to replace all of the electrolytic capacitors across the motherboard except for the clock capacitor. CLOCK CAPACITOR SOLD SEPARATELY. The clock capacitor is handled separately because the correct approach depends on motherboard revision and repair preference. On 1.0-1.4 motherboards, the clock capacitor can usually be removed and left off the board. The 1.6 motherboard is different and will not boot without either a working clock capacitor or a proper clock-cap bypass/modification. Before ordering, it's strongly recommended to verify your motherboard revision as accurately as possible. The manufacture date, serial number, video encoder, power connector, and other visual identifiers can all help narrow down the correct revision. The most reliable method is to visually inspect the motherboard itself, since original Xbox motherboards can be case-swapped and the board inside may not always match the outside shell. If you need help identifying your motherboard revision, use the Resources tab at the top of this website and look under Revision Identification. There are links to several motherboard identification resources that can help you confirm which kit you need before ordering. If you're still having trouble identifying your board, please take clear pictures of the motherboard and contact me through the chat here on this site. Bad motherboard capacitors can cause power issues, unstable booting, video problems, freezing, random shutoffs, failed startup, or other strange behavior. In some cases, capacitor failure can also damage surrounding areas of the board if leakage is left unchecked. Professional installation is recommended. A desoldering gun, hot tweezers, proper flux, board cleaning supplies, and good soldering technique are strongly recommended for this work. Soldering is required. These kits are meant for users who are comfortable identifying capacitor polarity, removing old capacitors, cleaning the board, and installing replacements correctly. If you are inexperienced or do not do this type of work often, it is strongly recommended to take clear pictures before removing anything so you can verify capacitor locations, polarity, and what was originally installed. There can be small capacitor differences within the same revision range, so replace the electrolytic capacitors that are actually present on your board. Do not force a capacitor into a location that was not populated with the same style of capacitor from the factory. DIY installation is done at your own risk. TK's Custom Super Modz is not responsible for motherboard damage caused by improper removal, incorrect installation, lifted pads, damaged vias, reversed polarity, overheating, solder bridges, or other installation mistakes.
