Sustainable Travel Coffee CUP
We welcome the collaboration with “made by Fressko” Australia as we introduce you to our beautiful new sustainable coffee mugs. They feature a special touch of Magic Beach with one of Alison’s favourite marine creatures, the weedy seadragon. This is a unique way to remind us of our vulnerable species – see below for some more information on this amazing marine fish. They are 12oz and have a smooth ceramic interior, along with the durability and practicality of stainless steel. The ceramic finish provides a clean, neutral surface that helps prevent flavours and aromas from lingering. Currently available in 8 different colours RRP $49.95 The weedy seadragon – more about this fascinating species. · The conservation status of the weedy seadragon (Phyllopteryx taeniolatus) is currently classified as Vulnerable or Near Threatened depending on the specific regional or global tracking updates, with recent assessments noting upgrades to vulnerable due to increasing environmental pressures. · They live only in the temperate marine waters around the southern half of Australia, stretching from Port Stephens in New South Wales down around Tasmania and across to Geraldton in Western Australia. They are endemic to Australia, meaning they do not naturally live anywhere else in the wild. · They stand out for several distinct physical and behavioural traits: Leaf-like Camouflage: They feature unique, weed-like appendages on their bodies that mimic floating kelp and seagrass, allowing them to drift completely unnoticed by predators and prey. Male Pregnancy: Like their seahorse relatives, male weedy sea dragons carry and incubate the eggs. Instead of a closed pouch, the female glues 250 to 300 bright pink eggs onto a spongy brood patch on the underside of the male's tail, where he fertilizes and oxygenates them for six to eight weeks. No Teeth or Stomach: They lack teeth and a true stomach. Because food passes through them quickly, they must feed almost constantly on tiny crustaceans like mysid shrimp. Straw-like Snout: They use their long, tubular snouts like a dropper or drinking straw to rapidly suck up passing prey through powerful suction. Non-Gripping Tails: Unlike seahorses, their long tails are rigid and lack a prehensile (gripping) ability, meaning they cannot anchor themselves to sea plants and instead sway freely with ocean currents. Elaborate Courtship Dance: Before mating, pairs perform a synchronized vertical "dance," mirroring each other's movements in the water column while glowing with brighter, iridescent colours.
