MOONBEAMS! "Genuine Imitation Wally Moon Eyebrow" A handmade, signed and numbered Pop Fly art collectible. Limited edition of 30. Yes, I made Wally Moon's eyebrow. Well, a genuine imitation of it, anyway. If you know anything about Wally Moon, you'll know he was a terrific ballplayer who became something of a sensation when he joined the Dodgers in 59. Playing at the Los Angeles Coliseum, he learned to loft enormous fly balls over the 42-foot screen in left field. They called them Moon Shots. This was right in the middle of America's fascination with the Space Race, and here was this ballplayer named Moon, hitting Moon Shots, with one of the most magnificent unibrows in baseball history. I've always LOVED the strange little novelty items that used to hang in five-and-dime stores or mail in items in kid's magazines. Fake mustaches, disguises, decoder X-ray glasses, all that ridiculous stuff. And I kept thinking that somewhere around 1960, somebody really should have made a Wally Moon eyebrow. When I was in eighth grade, I had a math teacher named Mr. Keen who had these enormous, furry blond eyebrows. Us kids we called them Keenbeams. I've remembered that name all these years. So when I started thinking about Wally Moon, the name Moonbeams was practically waiting for me. What I've made is the novelty that never existed. Each Moonbeams features a fuzzy, individually hand-cut Wally Moon unibrow, mounted in vintage-style blister packaging with original artwork that I drew and designed to look like something you might have found hanging in a store in 1960. Every one will be assembled by hand, with its own little imperfections and personality. Rather than making a flat 2D depiction of my vision, I opted to actually make the kind of oddball baseball collectible I've always loved, rather than simply drawing one. If you've been with me for a while, this might remind you of the Quiz submarine. Only 30 Moonbeams will be made, each personally signed and numbered & available for purchase at $125 each. There will not be another production run. I don't know that the world needed Wally Moon eyebrows. But I'm obscenely glad I finally made them. SWING FOR THE MOON!
