Canoe & Kayak Skid Plate Kit with Kevlar® Aramid Tape + Epoxy
Bow and stern skid plates for a canoe or kayak in one afternoon, with genuine Kevlar® aramid, not the "made with Kevlar" import blends. Skid plates take the grinding abuse of landings, rock gardens, and oyster bars so your hull laminate never has to. What is in the kit: 2 yards of 6 in wide 5 oz genuine Kevlar plain weave tape (Style 281), woven selvage edges so the sides never fray. Enough for a bow and a stern plate with tape to spare 24 oz two-part epoxy kit: 16 oz resin plus 8 oz slow hardener, mixed 2 parts resin to 1 part hardener by volume. Epoxy is the right resin for a secondary bond to a cured hull 2 graduated pint mixing tubs, a 2 in chip brush and a pack of wooden mixing sticks 21 wet/dry sandpaper sheets, 120 to 2000 grit, shipped in its own package You supply: nitrile gloves, masking tape, acetone or denatured alcohol, and 80 grit paper if the hull needs heavy prep. How the job goes: sand the bow and stern contact patches, mask a border, wet out the tape in place, and feather the epoxy edge. The woven tape follows the stem curve without darts. Cured plates are tough, slightly textured, and sand to shape if you want a cleaner line. Works on fiberglass, Kevlar, and carbon composite hulls, and on Royalex with proper prep. Not for polyethylene (rotomolded) hulls; nothing bonds reliably to polyethylene. Ships UPS or FedEx Ground to the lower 48. The fabric and the epoxy resin are not regulated for transport; the small hardener bottle is a limited quantity corrosive, so the kit travels by ground and cannot go by air. Kevlar® is a registered trademark of Arclin.
