Tortoise, Carl Stone - Night Gang [Carl Stone Remix]

Electronic music legend Carl Stone’s remix of Tortoise’s “Night Gang” is as transformative as it gets. Created by Stone in a hotel in Shanghai during the middle of his September 2026 Chinese tour, here the final track on the Tortoise’s genre-defying 2025 album 'Touch' is chopped, scattered, and chopped again—finally rendered as an abstraction fit for some imaginary free-rhythm dance floor. Artillery-spatter whiplash percussion winds up the aural space until the tune releases into undulating, wide-stereo box fan garbles, flanging and phasing like sound barriers breaking amongst the crisp snap of big beat snares. The sonic transformation alone—from cowboy sunset hero jam to disjointed danse concrète—is worth the price of admission, but the track stands firm on its own merits. Even Richard D James or Autechre rarely sound this fried.
