Ortovox Bivy - Single
The Bivy Single is a tough one-person bivy bag for day tours and multi-day alpine trips. It’s made from 70D ripstop polyester with a PU coating, so it’s water and dirt resistant, and it blocks the wind. The bright orange signal color helps rescuers spot you faster, which matters in an emergency. It works as an emergency shelter, or you can use it as a protective cover for your sleeping bag on a planned bivouac. It packs into a compressible stowaway bag with a roll-top. SPECS Bivy bag for 1 person Windproof Water and dirt resistant, PU coating Signal orange for visibility Fixed, compressible stowaway bag with roll-top Material: 70D polyester ripstop Weight: 280 g BUYERS’ GUIDE This is the tougher step up from the Bivy Ultralight. It weighs 130 g more and costs CA$60 more, and for that you get a heavier ripstop polyester fabric that handles rough use better than a thin bag. The bright orange color is a safety feature too, since it makes you much easier to spot from the air or on a slope. A bivy bag keeps the wind and wet off you, but it doesn’t add much warmth on its own, so pair it with extra layers and an insulated pad, and sit on your pack or skis rather than on the snow. Ortovox doesn’t list the bag’s dimensions, so ask us if you want to check the fit for a taller rider with a pad and layers. If you need a bag for two people, ask us about the Bivy Double. Open the bag and practise getting in before you need it, since it’s a lot harder with cold hands.
