The Humber Bridge |13,153 PCS|

Humber Bridge in a places-themed, photorealistic-style DIY brick-art mosaic. 13,153 classic-compatible plastic bricks that start with the tale behind them... Part 1... Dot Hargreaves had painted the Humber Bridge for twenty-six years, and in all that time the bridge had never once surprised her. ...See More It hummed in a gale, it groaned in the cold, and on summer evenings it glowed like a harp strung across the estuary. Dot knew every bolt by its first name. So when the storm warning came through that November afternoon, she wasn't worried. The bridge would shut, the traffic would turn back, and she would ride out the weather in the maintenance hut halfway up the north tower with a flask of tea and the radio for company. By nine o'clock the wind was screaming. The Humber below was a churning sheet of brown and silver, and the great cables sang a note so low she felt it in her teeth. The deck was empty. The barriers were down. Nobody was out there. Nobody could be. Then the radio crackled, and the control room said a boy had gone missing from Hessle. Eleven years old. Last seen with a kite, heading for the river. Dot looked out of the hut's tiny window. Far below, on the empty roadway, swinging in the gale beneath the main cable, something small and red was dancing on the end of a string. And at the other end of the string, clinging to the outside of the safety rail above the black water, was a child.
