Kit #106 — 48V Houseboat Off-Grid Kit – 8000VA BSLBATT Lithium (Value) | Large Houseboat Solar & Lithium
Big Houseboat. Big Power. For larger houseboats and full-time liveaboards that want to run aircon, cooking and washing without thinking twice. This kit steps up to an 8000VA Victron inverter, bigger solar chargers and 20kWh of lithium. The value version of our 8000VA houseboat kit — the same Victron power electronics as the premium kit, paired with great-value BSLBATT rack batteries. 🎁 Every kit includes 3 x free 30-minute phone calls with Landon — a licensed sparky who designed this system. Use them to plan your install, troubleshoot on the day, or get your Victron app set up properly. You're not buying a box of parts and getting left to figure it out yourself. What's in the Kit Inverter 1x Victron MultiPlus-II 48/8000/110-100 230V The heart of the system. 8000VA inverter with a built-in battery charger. Plug into marina power or run a generator and the MultiPlus charges your batteries and passes power through to the boat automatically — unplug and it switches straight back to battery power without a flicker. Monitoring 1x Cerbo GX MK2 1x GX Touch 70 Display 2x VE.Direct Cable 0.9m 1x 2m UTP CAT5 Cable 1x VE.Can to CAN-bus BMS Type B Cable 1.8m See your solar, battery level and power use on the wall-mounted touchscreen, or check in from your phone through Victron's free VRM portal while the boat's moored and you're not on board. Distribution & Fusing 1x Noark MCCB 200A 500VDC 2 Pole (main battery breaker) 1x Victron Lynx Distributor 2x 80A MEGA Fuse (solar chargers) 1x 60A MEGA Fuse (12V supply) Everything on the DC side is fused and lands on the Lynx Distributor, with the Noark breaker as the main battery isolation — a clean, safe layout that's easy to service on a boat. Solar Chargers 2x Victron SmartSolar MPPT 150/60-Tr 1x 4 Pole DC Distribution Enclosure 2x Noark 25A DC Circuit Breaker (solar isolation) Two separate solar chargers mean you can run panels on both sides of the roof, or split the array so shading from a canopy or mast only affects half of it. Together they'll handle up to 6,000W of solar panels on a 48V system. Solar panels are sold separately — check out our range of solar panels here and get in touch if you need help sizing your array for this kit. 12V Supply 1x Victron Orion-Tr 48/12-30A (360W) Isolated DC-DC Converter Most boats still have plenty of 12V gear — bilge and water pumps, nav lights, fans and the radio. The isolated Orion runs all of it from the main 48V battery bank, so you don't need a separate 12V battery. AC Distribution 1x 8 Pole AC Distribution Board 1x Hager 32A RCBO 2 Pole 30mA 1x Hager 16A RCBO 2 Pole 30mA Batteries 4x BSLBATT 48V 5.12kWh Rack Mount LiFePO4 Battery (20.48kWh total) Lithium iron phosphate — the safe chemistry, which matters when you're living on the water. Rack-mounted, tidy, and they talk to the Victron system over CAN-bus. Backed by BSLBATT's 5-year warranty for boat installs. 20.48kWh is a strong base for a big houseboat — enough to run through the evening and overnight, with room to add more batteries later. The best part? The battery bank is fully scalable. Add more batteries at any time without replacing the inverter or rewiring the system. It's been purpose-built for this exact system so you know precisely how everything connects together — no guesswork, no Googling. Whether you're handing it to your sparky or working through the install yourself, it makes the whole job a lot smoother. What Can It Run? A typical large houseboat on this system would comfortably run: Split system air conditioner Induction cooktop and oven Fridge/freezer and a second fridge Washing machine Water and bilge pumps (via the 12V supply) Lighting, TV, coffee machine and everyday appliances Note: This kit does not include solar panels, solar mounting hardware or a shore power inlet. It also does not include AC wiring beyond the distribution board — your sparky will handle that on board. Is This a DIY Kit? Yes — everything here is designed to be installed by a competent DIYer or licensed electrician. The DC side (batteries, inverter, MPPT) can be self-installed. The AC connections must be done by a licensed electrician to comply with Australian standards. Not sure if this is the right size for your setup?
