It is, however, found widely across Europe and the Holy Land, from where it might have been introduced by pilgrims. What's for sure is that Star of Bethlehem has been widely naturalised in grassland here for many hundreds of years. In the Middle Ages it was also known as Dogs' Onions; its bulbs are edible.
