Poster featuring Fruit (or Pomegranate), one of William Morris’s early wallpaper designs from around 1866. Lemons, oranges, pomegranates, peaches, flowering branches, and leaves are woven together into a lush botanical pattern with a strong decorative presence.The first idea for the design can be traced back to around 1862, when Morris was still at the beginning of his career as a pattern designer. William Morris (1834–1896) would later become the leading figure of the British Arts and Crafts movement, known for his conviction that everyday objects should be both beautiful and well made. Fruit already reveals the sense of nature and rhythmic repetition that made his patterns so sought after.
