The City and the Sea: A Story of Reconnection and Coastal Recovery

Edinburgh has long had a reputation for turning its back on the sea. The Old Town was built on a defensible rock, miles from the water. Leith ran its docks as a separate town for centuries. Industry sealed off the shoreline. And the city grew inland, toward the hills, not the coast. But Edinburgh is turning back around. As part of Ocean Talks with Finisterre, we’re bringing together the people restoring the Firth of Forth’s coastline, fighting for stronger Marine Protected Areas, and telling the Forth’s stories through film and photography – from Edinburgh Shoreline to Blue Marine Foundation and beyond.
