Antique English Regency Inlaid Sewing Box

An early 19th-century English sewing or work box with a warm mahogany-toned exterior, geometric inlay to the lid and a diamond-shaped mother-of-pearl key escutcheon. The hinged box opens to reveal its original lined interior and removable upper tray, once used for storing sewing notions and small personal items. The simple geometric inlay and understated form are characteristic of the Regency and William IV period. The box shows considerable evidence of its long life, including scratches and scuffing to the exterior finish and wear, along with staining and losses to the original interior lining. The hinges are secure and box is sturdy. There is no key. Measures 11" by 7.5" by 5" Sourced in England. Circa 1820–1840.
