Mind Games Memory Game
Produced exclusively for the exhibition Madelon Vriesendorp: Mind Games at Sir John Soane's Museum, this classic memory game features Vriesendorp's drawing Afterlife of the Mind Game no. 1 in pencil and coloured pencil. The large-scale 3D version of Mind Game is on display in the Museum as part of this exhibition. Each of the 24 cards features one of the 12 figures from Mind Game, part board game, part psychoanalytic diagnostic tool. In this interactive and deeply playful piece, observers are invited to engage with a series of familiar yet mysterious elements in order to prompt self-enquiry and revelation. Each element or figure is ascribed with a particular set of characteristics: the dog is "both guide and guard", the bird is "both nomad and nester", the foot is "both progress and impermanence" and so on. This new form of Mind Game allows you to restage this famous art work in your own home - or simply test your memory as you play. Recognised as one of the most significant forces in modern architecture through her work with Dutch studio OMA (which she co-founded with architect Rem Koolhaas in the 1970s) and the most recent recipient of the Soane Medal, artist, artist and collector Madelon Vriesendorp is something of a cult figure. Her uniquely surreal and subversive perspective has proved profoundly influential over five decades of active engagement with the worlds of art and architecture; of her work Vriesendorp simply says, "I make things that make me laugh." © Madelon Vriesendorp. Supplied in a drawstring 100% cotton bag. Card dimensions: 6 x 6cm. For children aged 12 and above. Made in the UK.
