Eames Soft Pad Recliner for Herman Miller, Blue Gray Aluminum Group Lounge Chair

This authentic Eames Soft Pad Recliner with Arms designed by Charles and Ray Eames for Herman Miller was manufactured in 1990. This distinctive example combines light bluish-gray fabric upholstery on the cushions with contrasting dark bluish-gray leather trim. The comfortable, contoured design features a high back with four individually upholstered cushions, padded seat, 360-degree swivel and balancing tilt. The chair is constructed with a lightweight die-cast aluminum frame, polished aluminum arms, tubular steel column and five-star polished aluminum base with floor glides. Herman Miller manufacturer’s label and 1990 date sticker present. Introduced in 1969, the Eames Soft Pad Group was developed by Charles and Ray Eames as an extension of their Aluminum Group, originally introduced by Herman Miller in 1958. The Eameses retained the Aluminum Group’s innovative suspended seat and back construction while adding individually upholstered cushions for greater comfort. The Soft Pad Recliner combines a high back, wide seat and relaxed pitch with the lightweight sculptural aluminum construction of the original design, creating a comfortable lounge chair for home or office.
