Prusa XL+ Dual-Tool Head 3D Printer with Optional Enclosure
Original Prusa XL+ Dual-Tool Head (Extruder) 3D Printer | 360×360×360 mm Large Format, Optional Enclosure Print the whole part — not the puzzle. The Original Prusa XL+ Dual-Tool Head is the practical entry to Prusa’s large-format multi-material toolchanger platform. You get a full 360 × 360 × 360 mm cubic build volume — about 46.7 liters, roughly 3× a CORE One+ and 1.5× a CORE One L+ — so props, jigs, architectural models, cosplay armor, fixtures, and production parts come off the bed as one piece instead of a glue-up. Two independent Nextruders stay loaded and ready, so you can combine materials, colors, or nozzle sizes in one job without paying for five heads on day one. This is the second-generation XL. Compared with the original Prusa XL, the XL+ prints about 10–15% faster, uses new 1.5 mm GT belts, adds a nozzle wiper, improves toolhead and electronics cooling, and ships with fully automatic tool-offset calibration via a dedicated electronic sensor. The frame is already tooled for extra heads: start with two Nextruders today, add up to five later, and keep the same machine. Key specifications Build volume: 360 × 360 × 360 mm (46.7 L) Architecture: CoreXY, 1.5 mm GT belts, Input Shaper, Phase Stepping Extruder: Dual Nextruder direct drive Max nozzle / bed: 290 °C / 120 °C (16-tile segmented bed) Chamber (optional): ~50 °C with Enclosure for Prusa XL+; ~60 °C with upcoming heater Toolheads: 2 now; frame ready for up to 5 with automatic tool changing Calibration: LoadCell first layer; electronic tool-offset sensor Print surface: Removable double-sided satin sheet Filament: 1.75 mm, any brand Connectivity: Ethernet, optional Wi-Fi; offline capable Size / weight: ~700 × 900 × 720 mm, ~30 kg Built for big parts, two materials, and engineering filaments CoreXY motion with Input Shaper and Phase Stepping keeps layers smooth at speed. Each Nextruder direct-drive extruder handles PLA and PETG as easily as TPU and carbon-fiber composites, with a max nozzle temperature of 290 °C. Keep two materials or two nozzle strategies loaded at once — for example model material plus soluble supports, rigid plus flexible, or fine-detail plus high-flow. Quick-swap nozzles cover fine detail (0.25 mm), everyday work, high-flow bulk (0.6 / 0.8 mm / CHT), and abrasives (hardened steel). The segmented heatbed uses 16 individually controlled tiles up to 120 °C. Only the area under the part heats, which cuts power draw on smaller jobs and improves first-layer consistency across a 360 mm plate. Automatic LoadCell first-layer calibration measures real nozzle-to-sheet distance — including after nozzle changes, sheet swaps, and thermal expansion. Dual-head tool offset is calibrated automatically with the dedicated electronic sensor. Open materials policy: any brand of 1.75 mm filament. No chips, no lock-in, no subscriptions. Supported families include PLA, PETG, ASA, ABS, PC, PA (nylon), TPU, PVA, HIPS, PP, CPE, PVB, and carbon-fiber composites. A silicone printing toolhead is planned for Q4 2026. Enclosure option: stable chamber for ASA, ABS, PC, and nylon The XL+ is designed from the factory for elevated chamber temperatures. Add the official Enclosure for Prusa XL+ whenever you need a sealed, draft-free environment: Passive chamber heat from the XL+ bed: up to about 50 °C Upcoming external heater add-on: up to about 60 °C 99.9% HEPA Advanced Filtration System for odors and ultra-fine particles when printing ABS, ASA, PA, and similar Metal frame, Plexiglas/PETG panels, bellows access cover, LED strip, camera/electronics mounting points, quieter operation, and moving parts covered Installs on the printer and can be removed; kit ships complete (no printed parts required) XL+ only — the new enclosure is not compatible with the original Prusa XL. An enclosure upgrade kit exists for owners moving from XL Enclosure + XL+ hardware. You do not need the enclosure for PLA, PETG, or many composites. Add it when large ASA, ABS, PC, PA11CF, or other engineering parts start to warp, or when you want filtration and a quieter shop. Pair the enclosure with the upcoming heater when you need the full 60 °C chamber for big, boxy technical parts. Ready on day one, serviceable for years Ships assembled. Attach the two toolheads, run the calibration wizard, and print. Connectivity is Ethernet with optional Wi-Fi and optional Prusa Connect; the printer is fully usable offline, with a removable Wi-Fi module and no forced cloud. Smart filament runout pauses the job; power-loss recovery resumes after an outage. Firmware is open source. The machine is user-serviceable with a screwdriver — no glued assemblies or proprietary locks. Spare parts are intended to stay available for 5+ years. Designed, made, and tested in the EU and USA. Typical package includes the printer, handbook, Prusament PLA 1 kg, satin print sheet, two toolheads with high-flow nozzles, USB samples, toolset, and wipes. Who the Dual-Tool XL+ is for Workshops that need one-piece large parts plus two-material prints without paying for five heads on day one Product design, automotive fixtures, architecture, healthcare models, and cosplay Teams that want soluble supports, a second color, or a second nozzle size loaded and ready Shops that want a future-proof toolchanger frame and may add up to five heads later Teams that print single-material jobs and multi-material jobs, then add the Enclosure for Prusa XL+ when engineering filaments enter the mix If most of your work is single-material only, Single-Tool is the lower-cost starting SKU. If most of your work is multi-material production with several filaments loaded all day, Five-Head is the better starting SKU. If you need two materials or two nozzle strategies now, and the path to five later, Dual-Tool is the smart buy.
