Melanthera parvifolia

Melanthera parvifolia, pineland blackanthers, is a globally rare plant restricted to South Florida pine rockand understory. It also just so happens to be really well-suited to urban yards. Plants have a low habit, rarely exceeding 18” tall. This is an aster, so like all plants in the family, each “flower” is actually a cluster of several tiny flowers that are very enticing to small butterflies like blues and hairstreaks. It is a favorite nectar plant of the atala butterfly, and is therefore a great choice for your yard if you have the atala larval host plant, coontie. Like most native plants, it is incredibly drought-resistant once established. (Pot size: 1 gallon)
