Flea Market Item - Friand Tin Fancies 7

A charming collection of vintage French sewing notions in an old friand tin that we think would make a perfect pincushion! Nestled inside are gorgeous little pieces of French mercerie history that we have found during our adventures in the French markets. Included are two reels of beautifully soft sea-green sewing thread, a traditional metal thimble, an original card of approximately two dozen small dark mother-of-pearl or shell buttons, and a particularly pretty pair of square diamante buckles. The buttons have wonderful subtle flashes of iridescent colour, while the sparkling paste-set buckles were most likely intended as decorative dress or lingerie trimmings. Together with the original paper-labelled threads, they make an evocative little group of old dressmaking supplies. We would broadly date the contents to around the 1930s–50s. A beautiful collection for a lover of vintage haberdashery, textile work or for incorporating individual pieces into slow stitching projects.
