Drava Field Coffee OVERLAND – Brazil Filter 250 g
Long roads • rough tracks • last kilometre. Overland is the thermos coffee. Brewed at dawn, poured at the border, still good at the campsite. A Brazilian natural microlot from the Mogiana region — big sweetness, creamy cocoa, a quiet cherry note at the end — with the highest caffeine in our filter line for when the road gets long. Field strength rating: IP67. Tasting notes Roasted almond, caramel, cocoa, with a yoghurt-and-cherry finish from the natural process. Low acidity, heavy sweetness — it reads as a comfort coffee rather than a bright one, which is exactly what you want at hour nine of a drive. Holds its shape in a thermos for a good four hours; many filter coffees go sour by then. The coffee Origin: Brazil, Mogiana — Santo Antonio farm, producer Patricia Coelho, 1,015–1,300 m a.s.l. Variety: Mundo Novo Processing: natural, "Volcanic Process" experimental lot Composition: 100% arabica, Q-grade 85.50 Roast: medium-light (cinnamon roast) — 2/5 on the roaster's scale Profile: sweetness 5/5 · acidity 2/5 · body 4/5 · caffeine 5/5 Ingredients: 100% coffee, no additives Net weight: 250 g, whole bean Why Brazil, why natural Mogiana sits on the São Paulo–Minas Gerais border: red volcanic soil, rolling plateaus, a dry harvest season that lets farmers sun-dry whole cherries without the rot risk wetter regions face. That is what makes a Brazilian natural possible — the bean dries inside the fruit and soaks up its sugars, which is where the caramel, the cocoa and that cherry tail come from. Mundo Novo is an old Brazilian variety, hardy and sweet rather than fancy. Patricia Coelho's Santo Antonio farm runs this as a single microlot, so the 85.5 cupping score is for this lot, not a blended average. How to brew Roasted for filter: V60, Kalita, AeroPress, cold brew — and, yes, a camping percolator. Forgiving enough for a hotel kettle and a plastic dripper. Pour-over (V60 / Kalita): 15 g coffee to 250 g water, medium grind, water 93–95 °C. Bloom 30 s with 50 g, then pour in two stages. Target 2:45–3:15 total. AeroPress (road recipe): 16 g, medium-fine, 220 g water at 90 °C, stir, press at 1:30. Tastes sour → grind finer; bitter → cooler water. Thermos batch: 60 g per litre, medium-coarse, into a drip machine or a big pour-over. Pre-heat the thermos with boiling water first; it buys you an extra hour of good coffee. Cold brew: 1:8 by weight, coarse grind, 14–16 h in the fridge, filter. The natural-process sweetness is made for it. Percolator / cowboy coffee: coarse grind, off the heat as soon as it starts to perk. Overland is the one coffee in the line that survives this treatment. Espresso: not recommended — too light a roast. For pressure brewing pick Payload, Blackout or Fireline. Caffeine and timing The highest caffeine in the filter line (5/5). A natural-process, lighter-roasted arabica keeps more of its caffeine than a dark espresso roast, and this lot is a strong one to begin with. One mug at the first fuel stop carries most people to lunch. If you want the same style with a gentler kick, Uptime 99.9 (Honduras) is the quieter sibling. Who it's for Overlanders, van-lifers, long-haul drivers, expedition crews — anyone whose kitchen is the tailgate. It is the coffee we would pack in the lid organiser of a Peli 1510 next to the headlamp and the first-aid kit: light enough to carry, forgiving enough to brew badly, good enough that you will not. Roasted in Poland Drava Field Coffee is roasted to order by a specialty roastery in Kraków, in small batches, from beans graded above 80 points SCA. Packed in a one-way-valve bag with the roast date on the label. For best results use within 6 weeks of roasting. Storage on the road Keep the bag sealed and out of the sun — a glovebox in July will cook it. The one-way valve lets CO₂ out and no air in, so the bag itself is the container. Grind at home before a long trip if you have to; pre-ground Overland is still better at day five than most fresh-ground dark roasts, but whole bean plus a hand grinder is the proper kit. Overland vs. the rest of the line Overland — Brazil natural, caramel and cocoa, highest caffeine. The thermos and road-trip filter. Uptime 99.9 — Honduras, balanced and clean. The desk and night-shift filter. First Light — Rwanda, bright and floral. The morning pour-over. Payload / Blackout / Fireline / Stand-To — espresso roasts for machines and moka pots. See the whole line: Drava Field Coffee. FAQ Is it ground? No — whole bean only, so it stays fresh. A cheap hand grinder in the glovebox beats any pre-ground coffee. Will it work in a French press? Yes, coarse grind, 4 minutes. It is sweeter and less muddy than most press coffees because of the light roast. Decaf? Not in this line. All seven are caffeinated — and this is the strongest of the filter three. Roast date? Printed on the label. Orders are roasted to demand, so you receive a current batch, not shelf stock. What is IP67 on the bag? Our own field strength scale, not a certification — see below. IP67 is our field strength rating — a measure of kick, not an ingress protection certification. For protective cases that actually carry an IP67 rating, see our Peli range.
