Design Inspiration: This fine art print reproduces a plate from John James Audubon's landmark 19th-century masterwork, "The Birds of America," depicting Bachman's Warbler (Vermivora bachmanii), cataloged by Audubon as "Bachman's Swamp-Warbler." It is one of the most bittersweet entries in the work. The species was discovered near Charleston, South Carolina, in 1832 by the Reverend Dr. John Bachman, Audubon's close friend and collaborator, and Audubon painted the birds from study skins, never having seen one alive. The bright yellow male and the more subdued olive female are set among the white blossoms and autumn-tinged leaves of a Franklinia branch. The warbler was declared extinct in 2023, which makes this print a rare and poignant piece of natural history. It suits a Lowcountry or coastal home, library, or study, and pairs beautifully with traditional, naturalist, and Southern interiors. Craftsmanship: This print is reproduced from an antique Audubon engraving, scanned and enlarged by one of the top fine art printers in the country. Every print is made on acid-free, 100% rag cotton fine art watercolor paper using archival pigment inks for lasting visual brilliance. After printing, each piece is hand-trimmed with an 18-karat gold ink border and floated on conservation matboard for a refined, gallery-quality presentation. Available print-only or framed in our Larson-Juhl black and gold frame. For a custom Fattori Fine Frame, please get in touch with us directly. The Dixie & Grace Difference: At Dixie & Grace, we believe art should be as thoughtfully chosen as the room it lives in.
