Double-Bell Bass Trombone, Part 3.
The splendid brass and copper bells of a truly one-of-a-kind double-bell bass trombone. Commissioned by Ben Anderson of Orchestra Victoria and the Ossicle Duo, this extraordinary instrument was handcrafted by Bret Gustafson. A complex system of tubing, valves and mechanisms allows Ben to play through either bell independently, or through both bells together. The brass and copper bells each produce a distinctly different tone. In a curious twist of perspective, the heavily flared bells appear almost straight-sided, their increasing diameter precisely counteracted by their distance from the lens.
