Seed Blend: Native Annual Blend – Dry to Mesic
A celebration of the beautiful native annuals of our region! Annuals are plants that complete their entire life cycle, from germination to flowering and setting seed, within the same year. Although individual plants live for just one season, they will reseed from year to year, providing colourful blooms and quick cover while slower-growing perennial plants become established. Their abundance can naturally fluctuate over time depending on weather, available open ground, and competition from surrounding vegetation. This blend of beautiful native annuals provides a succession of colourful blooms throughout the growing season. The greatest abundance and diversity of blooms in this mix will be in mid- to late spring, but plants like Skunkweed and Cotton-batting Cudweed extend the bloom time into summer. Ideal for filling in spaces between existing plantings, adding fast-maturing bursts of colour, and quickly vegetating open sites. Contains a diverse mix of flower sizes, colours, and shapes that will attract everything from the tiniest native bees to the heftiest bumblebee queens. This blend can be sown in fall or early spring, but fall sowing is ideal. Many of the annuals in this mix can germinate and begin growing during the cool, moist conditions of fall, giving them a head start before the warmer, drier conditions of summer.
