Multi Arlequin

Multi Arlequin is the most colourful work in Thibault Philip’s Multi series. Several textile pigments come together in a harlequin composition, so that each section of membrane catches and filters the light differently. The material is animal intestine, a food-industry offcut that Philip reclaims and shapes by hand, twisting and layering it into a sculptural form. No glue or resin is used: the natural proteins in the material bind it on their own. Lit, the lamp becomes a patchwork of translucent colour that recalls the stained glass of another age. It is made by hand and unique.
