Raw Brass - Natural Patina Raw Brass has no protective coating, so it reacts with air, moisture and the natural oils on your hands. Over time it will darken and develop a patina, which many people love for the depth and character it adds. As a general guide: New: Bright, warm brass tone with an even finish. Very similar to Satin Brass, if a little brighter. Around 6 months: The brightness softens into a muted, deeper gold, with slight variation where the knob is touched most. Around 2 years: Noticeably darker amber and honey-brown tones, with some mottling and spotting. Around 5 years: A deep, aged brown with plenty of character. In humid or coastal environments, green verdigris may form in places. These timeframes are indicative only. Results vary widely depending on humidity, salt air, how often the hardware is used, and the cleaning products it comes into contact with. No two pieces will age exactly the same way. Restoring the finish: Raw Brass can be polished back to its original bright finish at any time using a brass polish such as Brasso. Apply with a soft cloth, buff, then wipe clean. Polish regularly to keep bright, or leave to age naturally. Warranty: Patina, discolouration, spotting and verdigris are natural characteristics of Raw Brass and are not considered defects.
