High Back Settle Bench

DESCRIPTION A useful and attractive high back settle bench features a tall paneled back design and scrolled side arms. It has a lift up seat, giving an ample amount of storage. It would make an attractive piece of furniture for a hallway or lobby. Can also be used as a bench seating along one side of a dining table. DIMENSIONS 31" x 15" x 84" [ W x D x H ] CONDITION This piece is in good condition. There is evidence of wear and tear on the back panel showing years of use. This adds to the charm and character of the piece. RESTORATION The bench is finished with traditional natural polish and wax. The brass hardware has been buffed to a shine. HISTORICAL CONTEXT A settle is a wooden bench, usually with arms and a high back, long enough to accommodate three or four sitters. Settles are commonly movable, but occasionally fixed. The settle shares with the chest and the chair the distinction of great antiquity.
