Vintage Blue Striped Studio Pottery Butter Bell

A beautifully handmade vintage studio pottery butter bell, with a soft speckled stoneware glaze and the loveliest blue glazed lid with simple painted bands. Full of that slightly wonky, tactile character that makes studio pottery so special. A butter bell is designed to keep butter soft and spreadable without refrigeration. The butter is packed into the inner cup of the lid, while a little cold water is added to the base. When the lid is turned upside down into the dish, the water creates a simple seal around the butter, helping to keep it fresh. A lovely piece of functional pottery for the kitchen table, and far too beautiful to hide away in a cupboard. Height: 9cm Base diameter: 13cm
