Named for the pierced stone screens of Mughal architecture — those carved lattices in Fatehpur Sikri and Humayun's Tomb that turn sunlight into geometry on the floor. Jaali carries that same filtered quality: ogee curves interlocking down the field, small circular medallions running the borders like the punched openings of a sandstone screen, the whole pattern softened as though seen through the haze of a long afternoon. The slate-grey ground holds the cool of stone, with ivory motifs surfacing through the weave where the print has worn back into the cotton. The symmetry is precise but the finish is not — and that tension, between architectural order and the soft give of cloth, is where Jaali lives. Handwoven on a traditional handloom in pure cotton, then hand screen-printed in small batches. The weave takes the ink unevenly by design, holding it densely in some passages and letting it fade in others — the way light passes differently through every cut in a real jaali screen. At home in a quiet hallway, beside a low chair, under a writing desk, or layered into a bedroom corner where the light shifts through the day. Pairs naturally with raw wood, brass, lime-washed walls, and unbleached linen. Details Material: 100% cotton Construction: Handwoven on a traditional handloom Surface: Hand screen-printed in small batches Palette: Slate grey with ivory motifs Finish: Softly worn, lived-in patina Care: Dry clean recommended; spot clean gently with a damp cloth; air dry away from direct sunlight Origin: Made in India Each Jaali is handwoven and hand screen-printed, so slight variations in weave, tone, and print impression are part of its character. No two pieces are identical — and that is the point.
