Shelly Manne & His Friends Vol.1 [used]
A 1956 work by the trio of Shelly Manne (ds.), André Previn (p.), and Leroy Vinnegar (b.). Although nominally a Shelly Manne leader album, it effectively features André Previn's piano as the star. Previn's brilliant and unrestrained piano, rooted in classical training, is underpinned by an ironclad rhythm section, making the songs swing vividly. This album is also captivating for its immersive sound by renowned engineer Roy DuNann and its mid-century modern cover illustration by Robert Guidi of LA design studio Tri-Arts.
