Antique French Art Nouveau Jardinière with Putti Figures, Early 20th Century 13.8"

An ornate French Art Nouveau jardinière dating from the early 20th century, richly decorated with scrolling rocaille motifs, flowing handles and putti figures resting across the pierced rim. Cast in metal with a warm bronze-toned patina, this decorative centrepiece combines the theatrical movement of Rococo Revival design with the naturalistic curves associated with the Art Nouveau period. The elongated oval form stands on scrolling feet and is framed by beautifully detailed handles with foliate decoration. The jardinière makes a gorgeous decorative object for a console table, mantel or dining table, whether styled with seasonal greenery, trailing plants or left empty as a sculptural piece in its own right. The interior tray retains its dark finish and the surface shows gentle wear and patina consistent with age and use, adding to its character.
