Exceptionally Rare excavated Confederate Engineers “local manufactured” Coat Button, identified in Tice’s reference as CSE252, Albert’s reference CS 162, convex, two-piece with wide, flat border. Tice mentions this button is rarer and more desirable of all the Confederate “E” buttons. The manufacture was attempting to create the illusion of the three-piece button, without having to discover a means of applying a separate ring. There are no known cuff specimens. A. The device is an old English “E” on a lined field, 26mm. Blank back. Excavated at Trevillian’s Station, Virginia.
