Region: Kagoshima, Japan Distillery: Kanosuke Distillery Age: NAS ABV: 50% Cask: Mizunara Size: 700 ml Experience the fifth chapter of KANOSUKE's exclusive "Artist Edition" series, a profound exploration of the Japanese Five Elements philosophy (Godai). With this expression themed around “Water”, the series reaches a quiet culmination, continuing its exploration of whisky character through art. Guided by this theme, the whisky draws inspiration from Mizunara—an oak long associated with the element of water. At its heart is a key malt matured in three rare Mizunara oak casks, expertly vatted with a diverse selection of both unpeated and peated malts. Slow dilution further harmonises the distinctive character of the Mizunara oak and peat, allowing each element to soften, integrate, and reveal greater depth. Deep resonance from Mizunara oak, layered aromas, and an expanding, complex finish — like winter water, quiet yet unfailingly alive, flowing beneath the surface. The element of Water, a universal symbol of life, is brought to life through the distinctive vision of artist Alexander Kori Girard. His recent watercolour practice, which explores the interplay of stillness and movement perfectly captures the gentle flow of water and the subtle pulse of life with delicate nuance, creating a visual expression that echoes the whisky's quiet depth and enduring character. (Tasting Note from Distillery) Colour: Golden Amber Nose: Apple, Caramel, Vanilla, Nikki(Japanese cinnamon), Sandalwood, Roasted green tea Palate: Apricot, Ginger, White peach, Kumquat jam, Light honey Finish: Gentle honeyed sweetness with citrus peel and balanced peat lingering long, like ripples on water
