INTRODUCTION this right here is a magnum opus of vintage fuzz. it is a timeline of all the major fuzzes hendrix used throughout his career. all 4 circuits are silicon transistors. This specific unit is the prototype, but fully functional. Just needed some minor pcb reworking. Basically, that black knob is a 4 way switch that toggles between 4 completely independent fuzz circuits. it looks more complex than it is. top row of knobs is the fuzz/gain control. the bottom row of knobs is the bias control. the middle row is exempt from these. that bottom knob on the middle row is the master volume. the top knob is the mode selector. MODE 1- fuzz face. left set of knobs. fuzz face, very classic fuzz sound. slightly tuned for more output than the vintage correct models. Cleans up very well. MODE 2- axis fuzz, 2nd to left set of knobs Thicker, with a crazy low mid growl to it. richer texture, fuller low end. Also cleans up insanely well. MODE 3- octavia. 2nd to right set of knobs. intricate texture and harmonic generations. This one has a far different harmonic content than other octave fuzz circuits, its got a bit more of a piercing nature and is lower gain. Great into a cranked amp, but into low gain/low volume amp, it excels stacked with another drive pedal. MODE 4- band of gypsys fuzz. right set of knobs. also cleans up well, quite smooth. the bias knob is awesome on this one, works as almost a filter of sorts. Sparkly cleans when the gain is low, nice little fuzz overdrive with clarity toward the middle, and full blown fuzz saturation when the gain is all the way up. the toggles- left toggle toggles the output buffer. does not seem to do much for tone but can help if you have impedances problems with whatever is after this pedal. right toggle- frequency mode. middle is brightest, cleanest, lowest gain, lowest low end. I do not recall which is left or right. I just know one is overload- most bass, most fuzz, most low end, one is normal, what you would expect from a fuzz. well rounded freq response.
