Sager Raku Workshop, Saturday, August 16th, August 30th and September 6th. Workshop Overview Day 1 Create hand built or thrown pieces using RAKU clay Apply terra sigillate to the bone dried vessels Bisque fire the pieces Day 2 Apply wire and organic materials to pieces with glue gun Create a thin clay pancake on newspaper Layer oxides, coloured slips and flammable materials to the pancake Lightly sprinkle (through a fine 60 mesh sieve) Cobalt and Copper Carb and irregularly over the pancake – ( Copper carb 1 tsp, Cobalt carb ½ tsp Sprinkle sawdust When the Pancake has lost its sheen, wrap the piece in the clay pancake and cover with foil (wrinkles are good) leaving an opening in the top Tumble stack the pieces in the clay saggar in the raku kiln Fire to a quick 05 glaze firing -- 1915 F Day 3 Unload and unwrap the pieces Damp mist – do not immerse in water Sand with 320 grit sandpaper until smooth Apply an oil or wax as a protective coating Additional Materials - Wire, feathers, horsehair, flowers, seaweed, leaves, sawdust, raffia, copper scrubbies Steel wool, coffee, pistachios, raffia, miracle grow Glue gun Soft cloths for buffing Workshop Term: 3 days Workshop Instructor: Donna Thomson Registration Fee: $200.00 per person plus HST Registration Deadline: August 14th, 2025 Workshop Dates & Times Schedule View Calendar Day 1 Sunday, August 16th 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm Day 2 Sunday, August 30th 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm Day 3 Sunday, September 6th 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm Workshop Registration Policies Workshop Cancellation If the Donn Zver School of Pottery decides on a formal workshop cancellation for any reason, registered students and guests will receive a full refund. Attendance Attending the workshop is the responsibility of the registrant. No refunds or credits are issued for missing the event. Registrant Withdrawal Requests No refunds or credits will be granted for registrant withdrawal requests made during the workshop (after the start date). Registrant withdrawal requests made in advance of two (2) weeks prior to workshop start date are eligible for a full refund or credit. Registrant withdrawal requests made within two (2) weeks or less of the workshop start date are eligible for a refund or credit less a 20% administration fee. Inclement Weather Conditions In the event of inclement weather, the Donn Zver School of Pottery will make a decision whether to cancel workshop or not. If a workshop cancellation is issued, the School will make very effort to reschedule the class. Inclement weather closures will be posted on the home page of the School of Pottery website or students will receive an email notification.
