Namiki Aya Tokiwa Evergreen
“Tokiwa” is a poetic term for evergreen flora in Japanese. It is a blend of the words “toko”, which means “unchanging,” and “iwa”, which means “rock”. Interestingly, “toki” also means “time”, which adds nuance. The Namiki Aya Tokiwa is inspired by the permanence of nature, with a pattern depicting mountains of trees that remain standing through different seasons. Created by the artisan collective Kokkokai, it features the Togidashi Maki-e (burnished maki-e) technique that uses Hira Maki-e for the main design, which is then lacquered and burnished with charcoal. Tokiwa is one of four pens released under Namiki’s Aya collection interpreting “irodori”, or a world of rich color, in different ways. “Aya” loosely translates as “beautiful color” or “shine”. We have for sale a brand-new Namiki Aya Tokiwa (Evergreen), complete with its box, papers, and other inclusions.
