WW1 era United States Army M1902 officer’s gilt finished presentation sword with scabbard by Ridabock and Co. New York, attributed to Lieutenant Charles Henry Barnum, New York National Guard. Toned silver, nickel and steel fittings, with urn shaped pommel, showing cast NYNG and laurel wreath decoration to the top of the plain back strap, heavily toned silver three branched guard, showing laurel wreath to both sides of guard and sunray and crouching eagle, with stars and lightning bolts, with polished bone grip. 81.5cm long, slightly curved nickel-plated steel gilt etched blade, marked for manufacture by Ridabock and Co. New York to ricasso, the blade in mint condition with gilt finished acid etchings to both sides of the blade, running 70% of the blade length, featuring the named panel ‘Charles Henry Barnum’, as well as the usual floral and trophies of arms and US panel. Nickel steel scabbard with double suspension hanging rings, attached to an ornate patterned eagle and floral ‘gate’ post and lower drag, the central shaft hand engraved ‘Presented to Lieut Charles Henry Barnum by Co. K 23” inf. N.G. N.Y. December 7 1911’. Overall, the sword is in exceptional, uncleaned condition and measures 100cm long.
