Shattuckite is a relatively rare copper compound (copper silicate hydroxide) that is found associated with copper deposits. The name Shattuckite is taken from the name of the mine from which it was first discovered (the Shattuck mine) in Arizona in the first part of the 20th century. This slab material is obviously not pure shattuckite, as it is incorporated into a rock along with malachite and hematite. This material is noted for its splays of rich blue and green. Harder than chrysocolla, it takes a beautiful polish and makes very elegant jewelry. Origin: Arizona Dimensions: 3.25" x 2.25" and is approximately 7.1 mm thick. Weight = 59 grams. Shown wet. Not polished. Known flaws are marked with white lines in the final picture frame.
