Cadman, Sheffield England Age Range: circa late 1800s Restoration: Fully restored- The blade was abrasively cleaned, fully polished and honed to shaving sharpness, original scales were sanded, polished, oiled and waxed and finally the assembled razor was honed and stropped to a comfortable shaving edge, (all in-house by GSG founder Matt W.) Blade Material: Sheffield Crucible Steel (carbon steel) Width: 15/16" wide from edge to top of spine at the widest point Grind: Full Hollow Hone Wear: none Tip: Square Finishes: Crocus (mirror) finish on blade and spine, glazed (satin finish on the blade faces) Condition: Just beautiful, only some scattered minor blemishes (patina) remaining in the steel, commensurate with its age Shave ready: Yes, freshly honed and stropped and sanitized, fully ready to shave Scales Material: Original black horn with lead spacer wedge, polished to a high gloss and fitted with nickel hardware Pinning: Nickel pins and washers, only the pivot pin and washers have been replaced Condition: Gorgeous, the blade centers well between them and is balanced well About our restoration and honing process Each one of our restored razors is brought back to life with a passion and attention to detail like it would be an addition to our own collection or user rotation. Many years of restoration experience and hundreds of restored razors sold around the world have refined our processes, but each razor is still given the time and individual attention it needs. Our vintage razors undergo dozens of steps involving blade unpinning (where necessarily) metal grinding/sanding with a range of different diameter and hardness wheels with various grits of abrasive and polishes. Scales are straightened and repaired when necessary, wet sanded and polishing. After the razor’s cosmetic and functional repairs are completed, a multistep honing process using a range of synthetic and natural sharpening stones is used to bring each razor back to keen and comfortable shaving sharpness. Finally stropping is performed on one of our cordovan leather strops and the blade is sanitized in Barbicide hospital-grade disinfectant.
